We made a “very good” progress in nuclear talks with Iran
US officials have made a “very good” progress during the second round of nuclear talks with Iran in Rome and are planning to meet their counterparts in Tehran next week.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragici and President Trump’s envoy, Steve Wittouf, conducted direct and indirect discussions during the meeting that lasted for more than four hours, according to an American official.
A senior US administration official said: “We agreed to meet again next week and we are grateful to our Omani partners to facilitate these talks and our Italian partners for hosting the United States today,” said a senior US administration official.
Araghchi said after the meeting that the progress in “principles and ends” was held and that discussions at the technical level will start in “next day”.
“We have explained how much in Iran think that [Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action] It is no longer good enough for us. For them, the remainder of that deal is the “learned lessons”. I personally tend to agree. Aragchi said in a statement on Saturday on the social media platform X.
“After that, we will be in a better position to rule,” added the Iranian Foreign Minister. “At the present time, there may be optimism but only with a great deal of caution.”
It is scheduled to meet Wittakov and Aragchchi again next Saturday.
Hadel indicated on Saturday that progress was made when Trump pushes a new deal with Iran, as Tehran has accelerated the nuclear development program. Trump said in the past that Iran could not have a nuclear weapon and indicated that if the diplomatic road is not preserved, it may follow the military action against the country.
Amman said that the two sides are scheduled to enter the next stage of nuclear talks to photograph an agreement that ensures that Iran does not have nuclear weapons or remain under the restrictions of sanctions.
Araghchi and Witkoff, through the mediation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs in Amman Badr bin Hamad Al -Bossidi, “They agreed to enter the next stage of their discussions aimed at concluding a fair, permanent and binding deal, which will ensure Iran is completely free of nuclear weapons and sanctions, and to maintain its ability to develop peaceful nuclear energy.”
“We are only in dialogue and clear communication, we will be able to achieve a reliable agreement and understanding in favor of all concerned regional and international.” “It was also agreed that the next round will take place in Muscat in the next few days.”
A US official said on Saturday that the second round of the talks between the two sides were held at the headquarters of an Omani ambassador and began at approximately 11:30 am local time.
“I think Iran has an opportunity to get a wonderful country and live happily without death – and I would like to see it, this is my first choice,” Trump told reporters at the White House on Thursday.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Ismail Baghai, wrote on Saturday in a publication on the X that the Islamic Republic “has always proven, with good faith and responsibility, its commitment to diplomacy as a civilized way to resolve issues, in full consideration of the high interests of the Iranian nation.”
“We realize that it is not a smooth path, but we take every step with open eyes, and we also rely on previous experiences,” he added.
Before talks with Iran on Saturday, Wittouf met the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, in Rome, a diplomatic source told The Hill.
The talks come in Italy a week after the first round of discussions in Amman. Both sides described the talks as “constructive”. Witkoff also occurs with Araghchi face to face at the end of the meeting.
Trump withdrew from the nuclear agreement Obama in 2018.
The current US officials have repeatedly emphasized that if a new deal with Tehran is reached, Iran must get rid of its nuclear arsenal.
“President will not have a nuclear weapon,” Foreign Minister Marco Rubio told reporters on Friday. “This will not happen.”
He added: “We hope that the conversations will continue, that they are fruitful and that they – can lead to something.” “We all prefer a peaceful and permanent decision.”
