Vale iron ore output falls in the first quarter of injury by Brazilian rain
Brazilian Miners Vale produced 67.7 million metric metric iron ore in the first quarter of 2025, down 4.5% from the previous year, the company said on Tuesday in the sales and output report.
One of the largest iron ore producers in the world, Vale said heavy rain affected production in the northern mining complex of Brazil.
The first weaker quarter output has been expected, said Vale, and reaffirms his view to produce between 325 million tons and 335 million tons of iron ore in 2025, because it also began to improve the VGR1 and Capaema mining projects.
Sales of iron ore rose 3.6% in the quarter of the years-to-year to 66.1 million tons, the report shows, with Vale connecting the increase in supply from inventory, while also noting that it has prioritized middle class products given market conditions.
The average price realized from the vale iron ore fine is $ 90.80 per ton in the quarter ended in March, down by almost 10% of the years and a decrease of 2.4% from the last quarter of 2024.
In a note to the client, Citi analyst said iron ore output and sales were mostly in line with expectations, but copper and nickel defeated their estimates.
“We estimate that the decline in ranking is very small for the EBITDA estimation consensus,” analyst Alexander Hacking and Stefan Weskott wrote, adding that they expect stock to do in line following the results.
Vale will release the first quarter income on April 24.
Copper Vale production increased 11% in the quarter of years-to-year to around 90,900 tons, with companies quoting strong performance in the Voisey Bay mine in Canada and Salobo and Sossego operations in Brazil. Copper sales grew 6.6% to around 81,900 tons.
Nickel output rose by about 11% of the years to years to around 43,900 tons, mainly because of higher output in Onca Puma in Brazil and better performance in Canadian assets, said Vale. It sells 38,900 tons of nickel in this quarter, an increase of 17.5% from the previous year.
