Two-thirds of Americans say US is ‘seriously’ on the wrong track: Poll

Two-thirds of the American public say the country is off on the wrong track, according to a new poll from ABC News, The Washington Post and Ipsos.

The poll conducted last week showed that 67% of respondents say the country is “dangerously on the wrong track” while 32% say things are “generally moving in the right direction” in the country.

There is a sharp partisan divide in the data. Most Democrats and independents — 95% and 77%, respectively — are pessimistic about the country’s direction, while only 29% of Republicans share that view.

By demographic breakdown, 87% of black respondents, 71% of Hispanics, 71% of Asians, and 61% of white Americans say the country is headed in the wrong direction.

The latest poll represents a decline from November 2024, just before the elections, when 75 percent said the country was headed in the wrong direction.

At the same time, participants largely see both parties as disconnected from the concerns of most Americans.

This trend is especially true of the Democratic Party, which is viewed by 68% of respondents as “out of touch” and only 30% as “in touch” with the concerns of most people in the United States today.

61% believe that the Republican Party is out of touch with reality, while 37% say that it is out of touch. 63% say Trump is out of touch with reality, while 36% say he is in touch with the fears of most Americans.

The poll, conducted October 24-28, included 2,725 adults, and has a margin of error of 1.9 percentage points.
