Trump Tap the Deputy as interim CDC Director to RFK Jr.



The Trump administration has chosen the Deputy Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Jim O’nil to serve as the acting director of the Disease Control and Prevention Center (CDC), and after the administration’s current director, Susan Monarez, officials told The Hill.

In a statement from HHS on Wednesday, the White House confirmed its ouster, though Monarez is contesting his firing.

O’Neill is the Silicon Valley investor and former CEO of the Thiel Foundation, funded by Trump donor Peter Thiel. He previously served as the Assistant Deputy Secretary of the HHS during the George W. Bush administration.

He was sworn in as the Deputy Secretary in June.

White House Press Secretary Karolin Levit said on Thursday that HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. would announce the replacement of “very soon”.

The turmoil of leadership has sparked panic and anger between the public health groups and the Democrats in the Congress.

Four top CDC leaders submitted their resignation on Wednesday after the ouster of Monarez was ousted.
