He also used vacancy to appoint the Speaker of the White House Economic Council, Stephen Miran, in the Council – perhaps in an attempt to influence the Federal Reserve decisions in the future.

However, Powell repeated the Federal Reserve Independence on Tuesday during an event at the Great Chamber of Commerce in Rod Island.

“I must only say this, whenever we make decisions, we have never thought about political things. Therefore, we, as you know, in Washington, DC, and many people, as you know, in Congress, as you know, it is often seen through a lens of this party or bad for this party or this politician,” he told Powell the audience.

“We are not looking at things in this way. We are looking at what is the best thing for people we serve in the medium term, what’s the best policy,” he added. “We do not enter with the external people. We just do our jobs, keep our head and make our functions. That’s what we do.”
