Trump announces that Japan will face a 15 percent tariff as part of the Trade Agreement

President Trump announced on Tuesday that his administration had reached an agreement with Japan on trade, which will witness that the United States imposes a 15 percent tariff on Japanese goods.

Trump has published on the social fact that Japan will invest $ 550 billion in projects in the United States, although it has not specified what these investments will require. He also said that Japan will open its markets to American cars, rice and other agricultural products.

Trump said Japan will pay a 15 percent tariff to export its goods to the United States. This is the 25 percent less than Trump’s tariff he threatened to impose in Japan, starting from August 1.

“This is a very exciting time for the United States of America, especially for the fact that we will always continue to have a great relationship with the country of Japan,” as Trump has published.

Japan is one of the largest trading partners in the United States. The United States exported nearly $ 80 billion of goods to Japan in 2024, while Japan exported nearly $ 148 billion to the United States.

Trump has announced a series of commercial deals with other countries that lead to August 1, when he threatened to raise tariffs on commercial partners. The increase in definitions comes after the president retracted the “mutual” customs duties against dozens of other countries.

The President announced earlier on Tuesday the limits of a commercial agreement with the Philippines after he met its leader in Trump in the Oval Office. The White House has previously described agreements with the United Kingdom, Indonesia and Vietnam, as well as a framework with China.
