Thuma hybrid mattress review: Firm but desirable
Thuma Hybrid offers three firmness options: plush, medium and firm. I chose medium because my wife and I (mostly me) fluctuate between different sleeping positions. We are both mostly side sleepers, but often, sometimes at night I go back to stomach sleeping. Both of these sleeping positions require more back support to prevent back pain. But from the first night of the test, it was undeniable that this mattress had a firmer feel. In my experience, medium firm beds usually range from a 5 to a 6.5 on a scale of 10, with 10 being the firmest available on a bed. With Thuma Hybrid internal spring coils and stiffer Dunlop latex, I’d rate it a 7 out of 10. In fact, I’d guess that the Thuma Hybrid is comparable in “firmness” to Plank Firm, one of the firmest mattresses our team has ever tested.
As time passed and my body adjusted to the feel of the mattress, I could feel the softness increase slightly and sink in around my body. But in terms of pressure relief, I noticed a slight stretch around my hips and shoulders. It wasn’t something that disturbed my sleep, but I could easily see it doing for those with joint pain in these areas.
But that’s not what I really think this bed is a star for: couples, stomach sleepers, and people with heavy bodies. Couples, especially those interested in the best mattress for sex, may find a firm mattress that not only supports different sleeping positions, but sleep as well. other Positions Stomach sleepers (and back sleepers who prefer a firmer bed) need a bed that provides adequate back support. Finally, heavy sleepers or those with larger frames weighing more than 250 pounds may be satisfied with the firmness level of this mattress. This is because with more body mass, the bed has more power. A bed that is too soft can also contribute to back pain over time as the spine becomes out of alignment. The high-end materials that make up the Thuma Hybrid should increase overall support and durability and help prevent back pain.

In the end, the Thuma Hybrid is probably going to be a classic case of “give your body time to get used to it” – especially if you’re someone with a smaller to medium frame. Heavier sleepers can skip the jump phase. Would I personally classify the Thuma Hybrid as more of a medium company than a medium? No, especially since mattresses tend to soften over time. The reality is, though, that people aren’t usually in the mood to wait—there’s a reason most brands, including Thuma, require all 30 nights of sleep testing to be allowed to return.
However, for stomach sleepers, couples and sex, this mattress is a star – especially when paired with the Thuma bed frame. My next project is to board my dogs with my Thuma set up as the brand recently launched their own dog bed. But it’s safe to say that I joined my teammates as a new member of the Thuma fan club (unofficial, but we can make t-shirts).
