The University of Alaska Fairbanks is using ULTRA Windracers to advance telecommunications research
Wind ridersa British drone engineering and manufacturing company, today announced that the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) has begun flights in Alaska using… ULTRA WIND TRUCKSthe world’s most accomplished dual-use drone, is pioneering the delivery of essential supplies to remote communities.
Earlier this year UAF announced it has acquired several Windracers ULTRAs For Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) flights to remote communities across Alaska. The area is home to more than 200 remote communities depend on air transportation For basic supplies.
“Delivering air cargo to our remote communities is vital to life in Alaska, so we purchased the Windracers ULTRA to test how large drones can be safely used by Alaskan air carriers to provide medical supplies and cargo to these communities,” said Alaska Center for Unmanned Aircraft Systems Integration and UAF Professor Cathy Cahill.
“We need aircraft that can cover long distances safely, carry a significant weight of cargo or emergency supplies, and do so reliably and regularly,” she said.
“Our goal is to create an environment for the commercial sector in which drones become a routine sight in the skies of Alaska.”
“Windracers is proud to support the University of Alaska Fairbanks as they put Windracers ULTRAs to work executing missions in one of the most demanding environments in the world,” said Rob Datson, CEO of Windracers Flight Operations.
“The Fairbanks team are truly experts in using advanced drone technology
