The hospitality industry is warning of continued job losses and rising prices without Reves reducing the tax burden
Pubs and restaurants are warning they will cut prices unless Rachael reinstates taxes in next week’s budget.
The sector has been hit hard since last year’s budget proposed National Insurance (NI) and the minimum wage.
A survey by the Hospitality Authority and other UK trade bodies found that nearly a dozen companies are reprimanding staff or raising prices without emergency help.
“The situation facing local pubs, neighborhood restaurants and other hospitality venues is becoming more dire,” the groups said.
They want cuts to business rates and VAT, and changes to NI to protect pubs and restaurants that support jobs.
Simon Emini, chief executive of full-service pub chain Smith & Turner, warned this weekend that rising costs had seen businesses take some semblance of profits.
