The climber was missing for about a year – until the artificial intelligence system confessed to his hat
How long does it take Determination of a climber is missing in the 183 -Hectare mountainous area, and the analysis of 2,600 frames was taken by a drone about 50 meters? If this is done with human eye, weeks or months. If analyzed by an artificial intelligence system, one day. The alpine and spiral mountain rescue element, known in the Italian CNSAS initiative, documented from artificial intelligence to find the person who misses the person in the pyramid area in Italy on the northern face of Menfiso – the top of the Alps Cotton Mountains – since September 2024.
According to Saverio Assola, CNSAS drone interfering with his colleague Giorgio Viaana, the process – including searching for any missing signs, discovery and restoring his body and stopping due to bad weather – less than three days.
The recovery process
With the back of the Earth, his view of the mountains was established, 600 meters under the top, the body of the 64 -year -old doctor Nicolas Alado was found Thursday morning, July 31, more than 10 months after his disappearance, thanks to the helmet conflict with the rest of the scene.
“Artificial intelligence was the one that identified some pixels of different colors in the pictures taken on Tuesday,” ISola explains.
The team collected all the photos within five hours with drones only on Tuesday morning, July 29, and analyzed them using the artificial intelligence program on the afternoon. Until that night, rescuers previously had a series of “suspicious points” for investigation. Only bad weather the next day delayed the process.
“We woke up at four in the morning to reach a very far point in the channel where the red pixels were discovered and we used this drone to see if it was a helmet,” said Isola. “Then we took all the necessary photos and measurements and sent information to the Rescue Coordination Center, which was able to send the firefighter to restore and operate the police.”
Artificial intelligence role
Each drone operation is part of a delicate method designed by CNSAS in coordination with ENAC, the National Agency that monitors civil aviation. “We have used drones for about 5 years, and we have techniques that discover colors and shape for about a year and we develop them monthly,” ISola explains. “But all this will be useless without a technical team.”
Ivaldo mobile information was valuable immediately. Two drones in the region contributed to the experience and knowledge of four rescue men who specialize in mountains. “This is a human achievement, but without technology, this will be an impossible task. This is a success in the team,” ISola said.
