Russian pipe gas exports to Europe fell 44% y/y in January-April, data shows


Russian energy giant Gazpr Gazp Pipeline Exports to Europe collapsed 44% in January-April from the previous year after the closure of transit through Ukraine on January 1, Reuters calculations showed on Monday.

Russian pipe gas exports to the region decreased to 5.7 billion cubic meters (BCM) in the first four months of this year from 10.2 BCM in the same period in 2024, calculations showed.

Türkiye is now the only remaining transit route for Russian pipe gas to Europe after Ukraine chose not to extend the five-year transit agreement with Moscow when it ended on January 1.

Calculations Based on data from the European gas transmission group, Entog also shows that Russian gas exports through the Turkstream pipeline dropped to 41.7 million cubic meters (MCM) per day last month from 45 MCM per day in March.

It was about to be equivalent to 41.2 MCM in April 2024.

Gazprom, who has not published his own monthly statistics on total gas exports to Europe since the beginning of 2023, did not respond to requests for comments.

Russia supplies around 63.8 BCM gas to Europe with various routes in 2022, Gazprom data and Reuters calculations show. It dropped by 55.6% to 28.3 BCM in 2023, but increased to around 32 BCM in 2024.

At its peak in 2018-2019, the annual Russian pipe gas flow to Europe reached between 175 BCM and 180 BCM.
