Rubio invites officials in India, Pakistan, to pay a defuse crisis
Foreign Minister Marco Rubio contacted India and Pakistan officials in a batch to defuse the escalating crisis between neighboring countries after the deadly attack in Kashmir last week.
Rubio spoke to Pakistani Prime Minister Mohamed Shaybaz Sharif and Indian Foreign Affairs Minister Superhamaniam Jaishhakar on Wednesday and urged them to work together to “cancel tensions” in order to “preserve peace and security in South Asia”, according to both reading from the Ministry of State for phone calls.
The April 22 attack left 26 dead tourists in an India -controlled Kashmir, which accused Pakistan of supporting the attack and pledged revenge. India also responded to an important water exchange treaty with Pakistan, while both countries expelled diplomats and closed their borders.
Indian and Pakistani forces exchanged fire along the border for the last six nights, according to Associated Press.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Tami Bruce said that in his invitation with Sharif, Rubio said, stressed the importance of condemning the April 22 attack and urged Pakistani officials to cooperate with the investigation. It also prompted Foreign Minister Sharif to re -establish direct contacts with India.
“Again reaffirming their continuous commitment to the accountability of terrorists from the heinous violence.”
In his call with Jeishkar, Rubio expressed his grief over the missing spirits “in the attack and” reaffirming the United States’ commitment to cooperation with India against terrorism, “Bruce said.
