On the crime, Democrats still do not get it
We still do not get it.
Regarding the issue of the crime, the Republicans were playing my colleagues, such as violin for 50 years. And now we play again.
The last maestro was President Trump, who deployed the National Guard forces in Washington, DC – to address the alleged “crime emergency” – and in Los Angeles, where he cited protests against immigration raids. He thought about sending troops to Chicago, Balimore and other cities. On Monday, Trump ordered the Ministry of Defense to establish “specialized units” within the National Guard to assist the local police “in the exposure of civil disturbances.”
All of this is part of Trump’s efforts to protect “law and order”, according to the White House Fact newspaper. This was a Republican discussion point since the days of Richard Nixon, who rode victory in 1968 by drowning the air waves with pictures of switching and needles under the skin. The message was clear: If you are concerned about the crime, the Republican voted.
Democrats responded? The Republican Party exaggerates the problem. It raises racism by highlighting the American criminality of African origin. It strengthens the federal police, which puts our entire democracy in danger.
This was true in the 1960s, and it is more honest today. Democratic leaders have also noticed over the past few weeks, the urban crime has recently decreased in the United States Trump targeting cities because they often have black leaders or groups of big blacks. Its use of the federal forces – and its threats to spread more – represents “seizing authoritarian power”, and the governor of Illinois JB Pritzker warned.
But in America, the party that seems weaker on the crime will always lose. So Democrats need to stop reducing the problem, even if the facts are next to us. Instead, we need to turn the tables and show how Republicans harm law enforcement. , Because this is a fact too.
Start attacking the American Capitol building on January 6, 2021, when hundreds of demonstrators attacked police officers. A man was convicted of assaulting police officers with metal crutch. Another acknowledged that he was guilty of sinking the thunderbolt rifle in the neck of the officer. A third acknowledged that he was guilty of the Pepper -Brian Sinnic nomination officer, who died the next day.
All of these criminals – and more than 1500 others face charges regarding riots in January 6 – are now free, because Trump has forgiven them. He did not “support blue”; Instead, he threw them under the bus.
For this reason, the National Association of Police Organizations condemned Trump, declaring that “those who commit violent attacks on law enforcement officers should not benefit from the pardon.”
This was almost from JD Vance, who shortly after riots on January 6, “If you commit violence on that day, it is clear that you should not be pardoned.” But Vans supported all pardon and riding after Trump issued them, as most of the other Republican leaders did. How do Republicans make the Party of Law and order?
Or consider the Trump administration’s reduction of $ 500 million in federal police assistance and local police, including armed violent prevention funds. In June speech to Pam Bondi Prosecutor, law enforcement groups and police leaders indicated that these programs led to “measurable and large discounts in violence and murders.”
The letter added: “These are not good programs, they are life -saving strategies and implementing the law that it is implementing,” the letter added. But now they are adhering to their lives, threatened by the same White House who says it is a supporter of the police.
Most of the police did not welcome Trump’s publication to the National Guard, which insults their efforts and experiences. “We can deal with this,” said Los Angeles police chief after Trump sent forces to his city. Trump said otherwise, of course, he insists – without evidence – that Los Angeles “will burn” without his intervention.
Again, this shows that Republicans are not respectful of law enforcement. Democrats need to emphasize this issue over and over again.
But we still cannot bring ourselves to do so. Instead of attacking the Republican Party for its weak record of the crime, we still say that the crime decreases. “Statistics talk about themselves,” said former New Orleans mayor Mitch Landro.
No, they do not. The public remains safely a major issue for millions of Americans, especially for non -whites who abandon the Democratic Party. In order to return to them, we need to show that we hear – and share – their concerns.
If you are black or brown in America, you are more likely to be a victim of the crime. Most of these voters want more police – no less – so they are unlikely to be affected by racism charges in implementing the law.
The Democrats’ discourse about creeping tyranny is resonating with most Americans; On the contrary, it will extinguish them. To win the next group of elections, we need to get people who voted Republicans the last time to enter our column. Do we really think that they will be persuaded if we call their leader fascist?
The best play is to name a soft crime. This is the only way to avoid playing, again. And the best of all, this is true.
