Nordisk has an A+ rating
- Nordisk Aviation Products’ AKE container has received an A+ rating under ULD Care’s Climate Impact Label, recognizing its lightweight design and low CO2 emissions in air freight.
- Weighing 54kg and made from 78% aluminum and 18% aramid fiber composites, the container combines durability, recyclability and second life potential, supporting a circular economy approach.
- The certification confirms Nordisk’s leadership in sustainable air cargo operations, with plans to expand the Climate Impact Label to include other ULD types in future phases.
Nordisk Aviation Products (Nordisk) has revealed its latest sustainability achievement with its AKE container receiving an A+ rating under ULD Care Climate Impact Label certification.
The certification, developed through ULD Care’s Unit Load Device Management and Environmental Sustainability initiative, evaluates the environmental performance of ULD devices using criteria such as weight efficiency, material composition, and life cycle management. Lighter ULDs directly reduce fuel consumption, thus reducing CO2 emissions during air freight operations.
Nordisk’s standard AKE container has achieved the highest possible weight rating of A+, reflecting its dedication to lightweight, durable designs that reduce aircraft fuel consumption and carbon emissions.
The enclosure weighs just 54 kg (119 lbs), and delivers exceptional strength-to-weight performance with a composition of 78% aluminum and 18% aramid fiber composites. This ensures durability and recyclability in difficult shipping operations.
The design supports second life capabilities and includes spare parts availability, in line with Nordisk’s circular economy approach and commitment to reducing life cycle impact across manufacturing.
During the awards ceremony and press event at the conference, ULD Care members and industry leaders gathered to celebrate this achievement. Nordisk representatives joined delegates to celebrate this milestone in sustainable air cargo operations.
“We are proud to be one of the first manufacturers to be recognized under ULD Care’s Climate Impact Label initiative,” said Chris Kumar, General Manager, Nordisk Aviation Products. “This certification demonstrates our ongoing efforts to design ULDs to outperform operational requirements and promote environmental responsibility across the aviation supply chain.”
“It’s exciting to see how major OEMs are embracing transparency and environmental accountability,” said Louise Platel, Innovation Engineer at VRR. “Nordisk is leading by example, and our first A+ rating shows how environmental responsibility and innovation can come together.”
The Climate Impact Label currently applies to Nordisk AKE containers, with plans to expand certification to other container sizes and ULD types, including pallet grates, in future phases.
