Liège and Rockford sign sister airport partnership


  • Liège Airport in Belgium and Chicago Rockford International Airport in the United States signed a sister airport agreement during Air Cargo Southeast Asia 2025 in Singapore, establishing a strategic framework to enhance transatlantic cargo operations.

Two of the world’s leading air cargo-focused airports, Liège Airport (LGG) in Belgium and Chicago Rockford International Airport (RFD) in the United States, signed a sister airport agreement during Air Cargo Southeast Asia 2025 in Singapore, marking a new milestone in transatlantic air cargo cooperation.

The agreement establishes a formal framework for strategic cooperation between the two centers, with a focus on increasing freight traffic, launching joint marketing initiatives, and developing joint operational and digital innovations to simplify freight operations.

“This agreement is a testament to our shared vision for the future of air cargo,” said Torsten Wevers, Vice President Sales and Marketing at Liège Airport. “Together with Chicago Rockford International Airport, we are building a strong transatlantic corridor that will benefit shippers, carriers and the global supply chain.”

Zachary Oakley, CEO of Chicago Rockford International Airport, added: “Both Liège and Rockford are cargo-focused airports with complementary strengths. This partnership formalizes our collaboration and paves the way for exciting new opportunities.”

Both airports have a reputation as flexible and specialized logistics hubs, serving as vital gateways for express service operators, integrators and cargo airlines. Their partnership aims to strengthen connectivity between Europe and North America while promoting innovation in cargo handling, sustainability and data-driven operations.

The sister airport partnership of Liège and Rockford made its debut at Air Cargo Week.
