LATAM Group, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and Kuhne+Nagel join forces to provide humanitarian aid to Jamaica
- LATAM Cargo’s Solidarity Airplane program delivered 34 tons of Red Cross humanitarian aid from Panama City to Kingston, Jamaica, to support up to 1,500 families affected by Hurricane Melissa, in partnership with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and Kuhne+Nagel.
- The shipment included solar lights, emergency supplies, tarpaulins and tool kits, using stock pre-positioned at the IFRC’s Humanitarian Logistics Center in Panama to enable rapid disaster response.
- This first flight to Jamaica under the program highlights LATAM’s decade-long commitment to social responsibility, with the Solidarity aircraft supporting more than 17,000 beneficiaries and transporting more than 3,600 tons of humanitarian cargo across South America and the Caribbean.
As part of LATAM Group’s Solidarity Aircraft Programme, a special charter flight touched down in Kingston, Jamaica, from Panama City on Saturday, November 1, carrying nearly 34 tons of Red Cross humanitarian aid to support up to 1,500 families affected by Hurricane Melissa in the Caribbean nation.
The shipment – organized in partnership with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and logistics company Kuehne+Nagel – included solar lights, emergency response materials, plastic tarpaulins, and tool kits, all essential for ongoing relief and reconstruction operations. LATAM Group’s Solidarity Airplane program aims to support communities in the countries where it operates. It provides its expertise, contacts and capabilities to transport passengers and cargo free of charge throughout South America in support of health, environmental and disaster-related issues. Currently, the program maintains approximately 50 partnerships in Chile, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador and Brazil.
The shipment is part of the humanitarian stockpile that the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies has stored at its humanitarian logistics center in Panama. These specialized warehouses of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies store enough relief items to support up to 60,000 people affected by disasters and crises in the Americas.

Kuehne+Nagel participated in the operation by donating shipping services and expertise, including advising on air documentation and international procedures required for the shipment.

The shipping companies of the Kuehne+Nagel group and LATAM have entered into a partnership under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on all matters related to sustainability.
This is the first humanitarian charter flight conducted by LATAM with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to Jamaica under the Solidarity Airplane Programme, an initiative established over 10 years ago. From 2021 to 2025, the broader scope of the program has helped more than 17,000 beneficiaries and transported more than 3,600 tons of humanitarian goods free of charge throughout South America and the Caribbean.
