Istanbul’s new ‘sister airport’: Sydney


The Information and eGovernment Authority continues to enhance the scope and quality of services provided at Istanbul Airport through strategic cooperation that also contributes to Turkey’s tourism, commercial and cultural progress.

To enhance its global connectivity and service excellence through international partnerships, Istanbul iGA Airport – the hub that offers flights to the largest number of destinations worldwide – has signed an agreement Sister airport agreement With Sydney Airport (SYD) in Australia.

This strategic cooperation aims to increase passenger and cargo movement between the two airports, enhance air services, and jointly promote destinations. Within the scope of the partnership, the two parties will cooperate in developing the route, promoting the mutual destination and exchanging information.

According to the agreement:

  • Annual management meetings will be held, with workshops or seminars organized when needed.
  • The two sides will exchange non-commercially sensitive data and best practices to encourage knowledge sharing.
  • The development of new and additional air services will be promoted.
  • Joint marketing and promotional activities will be conducted to increase the visibility of Istanbul and Sydney as a tourist destination.

Istanbul iGA Airport has also established sister airport partnerships with Incheon International Airport (South Korea), Capital Airports Holding, Shanghai Airport Authority, Sichuan Provincial Airport Group (China), Copenhagen Airport (Denmark), Airports of Thailand, and Airport Corporation of Vietnam.
