Global air prices show recovery signs amid seasonal trends
Global air prices increased last week, according to the latest data from Tac Index, a pioneering price reports agency in the field of aviation. The Baltic Global Air Cargo Index (Bai00), which was calculated by TAC, increased by 2.2 percent for the week ending August 11. This represents a healthy gain during a quieter period of aviation calendar, leaving the index of only 1.8 percent less than it was twelve months ago.

Data revealed mixed trends across the main commercial corridors. The rates on the most crowded way of China were slightly lower for Europe but higher for the United States. The newly -added corridors to the index, including those in North Asia to India and Spain, have witnessed an increase in prices, but not on the roads to Australia.
The new Bai Spot indicators in Hong Kong showed a fixed increase throughout the week, as the broader index of Hong Kong (Bai30) increased by 2.1 percent a week, although it is still less than 7.1 percent on an annual basis. Meanwhile, the rates issued by Shanghai (Bai80) increased by 0.8 percent a week, leaving them 4.1 percent lower than last year.
Vietnam has witnessed higher rates for both Europe and the United States, while India prices decreased in both directions.
European issued prices continued to decline against China and Japan, but they increased in the Atlantic passages to the United States. Among the recent new roads, prices fell to Australia, but that to Brazil, Mexico, India and South Africa increased. The Frankfurt External Index (Bai20) recorded a 6.6 % outstanding increase per week, which led to an increase of 3.5 percent from last year number. The Bai40’s external index (Bai40) continued its strong rising momentum, with 8.5 percent a week, and represents a significant increase of 34.2 percent year on an annual basis.
In the United States, prices rose to Europe, but fell to China and South America, with the exception of the newly introduced neighborhood to Brazil. The Chicago External Index (Bai50) decreased by 4.9 percent per week, and 1.5 percent lower than the same time last year.
