From Mexico City to Madrid – priceless artifacts are transported to Spain by IAG Cargo

IAG Cargo, the cargo division of the International Airlines Group (IAG) in collaboration with Iberia, has successfully transported a collection of priceless artifacts from Mexico City to Madrid for the exhibition “Half a World: Women in Indigenous Mexico”. This major cultural initiative strengthens artistic and historical ties between Mexico and Spain.

The pieces, each representing the richness and diversity of ancient Mexican heritage, were transferred in partnership with the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) of Mexico after an agreement between the embassies of Mexico and Spain. The artefacts were transported using IAG Cargo’s high-security shipping solution, Secure, a product that provides enhanced protection for high-value and vulnerable shipments. It ensures specialized handling, continuous monitoring and safe storage within dedicated facilities to ensure maximum care from origin to destination.

After arriving in Madrid on board four Iberia A350 aircraft, the art collection will be displayed in three of Madrid’s most prestigious cultural institutions: the National Archaeological Museum – Spain’s leading archaeological museum, the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum – world-famous for its extensive collection spanning the Renaissance to the modern era, and the Cervantes Institute – dedicated to promoting the Spanish language and culture throughout the world.

The exhibition opened on Friday, October 31 and will remain open until the first quarter of 2026.

Speaking about the importance of the shipping and logistics company’s role in connecting cultures, Camilo Garcia, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer at IAG Cargo, said:

“At IAG Cargo, we take great pride in connecting cultures and communities through the movement of precious and purposeful goods.

“Whether it is fine art, historic artefacts or cultural treasures, our priority is always the same – ensuring every piece reaches its destination safely and on time.

“Such a collaboration with INAH reflects our broader commitment to using our global reach to connect people, preserve culture and make a positive impact that goes far beyond logistics.”

Sonia Sánchez, Director of Communications, Corporate Relations and Social Impact at Iberia, commented: “Iberia works every day to make our commitment to prosperity a reality, connecting people and cultures from all over the world. We are proud to be responsible for transporting this exhibition from Mexico City, one of our most emblematic destinations in Latin America. With this project, we actively contribute to strengthening cultural relations and friendship between Spain and Mexico, reaffirming our role as a bridge between Europe and Latin America.”
