Emirates SkyCargo adds Bangkok to its cargo network

  • Emirates SkyCargo has added a weekly cargo flight to Bangkok, increasing flexibility for Asian shippers via Dubai.
  • Increased demand across Thailand, Vietnam and China is leading to increased shipping frequencies in Hanoi and Guangzhou.
  • The carrier now serves 25 gateways in East and Southeast Asia, providing extensive weekly capacity across the freight and passenger networks.

As part of the significant expansion of the carrier’s network in East and Southeast Asia, Emirates SkyCargo has operated a weekly cargo flight to Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok. The new cargo destination operates the largest and most diverse route network of any non-Asian airline, and provides regional customers with greater flexibility to transport their goods around the world via Dubai.

The cargo arm of the world’s largest international airline now serves 43 global destinations with its dedicated cargo fleet, 11 of which are in East and Southeast Asia.

Guided by the government’s long-term “Thailand 4.0” economic vision, the country has invested heavily in innovation and development of more advanced technologies, and is emerging as global leaders in next-generation automobiles, smart electronics, medical and biotechnology, robotics and more. With its specialist product range, extensive fleet of more than 260 aircraft and unparalleled global network, Emirates SkyCargo is ideally placed to facilitate the movement of highly precise technical products in Thailand, as well as other goods including clothing and stone fruits.

Badr Abbas, Emirates Senior Vice President, Cargo, said: “Our operations in East and Southeast Asia are among the most expansive on our global network – from flight frequencies, cargo deployment, available capacity and the gateways we serve. However, the demand is enormous, and therefore the region will be the basis of our expansion plans until 2026 and beyond.”

“Markets like Thailand and Vietnam are the new heartbeat of global trade, with well-established, modern manufacturing capabilities, cutting-edge digital economies and world-class logistics infrastructure. We see no slowdown in demand and stand ready to support the region’s growth through fast, reliable and efficient movement of goods around the world.”

Due to the continued high demand, Emirates SkyCargo has also increased the number of cargo flights to and from Hanoi to four flights per week. Three of these cargo aircraft connect directly to Dubai World Central (DWC), while the fourth connects Dubai to Taipei and Hanoi, enabling the airline to better support customers based in Vietnam with a direct connection to and via Dubai.

The airline also operated a sixth weekly cargo flight to Guangzhou, to meet high demand from mainland China which mostly consists of consumer technology products, electrical goods and e-commerce. To ensure stable capacity during peak periods and seasonal demand, Emirates SkyCargo frequently deploys dedicated cargo capacity across the region.

Over the past 30 years of operations, Emirates SkyCargo has steadily and strategically built its operations across East and Southeast Asia, now serving 25 gateways with 45 cargo services, 13 charter services and 315 passenger services each week, offering capacity of up to 21,000 tonnes.
