Cold Chain Technologies expands its industry-leading reusable wallet

  • Cold Chain Technologies (CCT) has launched EcoFlex 3, an enhanced version of its reusable PCM-based shipping line, providing improved performance, sustainability and ease of use for temperature-controlled logistics.

  • Key upgrades include AirShield technology to slow sublimation of dry ice, a redesigned cover mechanism for safer payload access, and an improved regeneration process to reduce waste and lead time.

  • With more than 5 million EcoFlex units deployed, CCT has the largest reusable fleet on the market, supported by its CCT ReNew program and tools like “Track Your Landfill Prevention” to help customers achieve their ESG goals.

Cold Chain Technologies has announced the launch of EcoFlex 3, an evolution of the full-coverage, shape-stabilized PCM family of reusable EcoFlex chargers.

Known for its high-performance and sustainability benefits, the kit allows customers to rent temperature-controlled parcel shippers, providing a reusable solution at a lower cost per use that can significantly reduce storage requirements, while providing a reduction in fossil fuel use of up to 60.3% versus a standard shipper.

EcoFlex 3 builds on the capabilities of the existing range with a series of improvements developed in response to customer feedback. Improvements include the incorporation of the brand’s AirShield technology for dry ice shipments, which strategically controls gas flow in order to prevent supercooling events, and improves the duration of dry ice shipments by slowing the sublimation process.

In addition, the upgraded lid mechanism provides greater durability and easier access. The EcoFlex 3 cover is attached to the charger core instead of the vacuum insulated (VIP) top plate, as in previous generations. This allows dry ice to be added, if necessary, without moving or touching the load, and makes the process of unpacking the charger and removing the product simpler, while reducing the risk of damage to the pack.

EcoFlex 3 benefits from improved core packaging technology that optimizes the regeneration process and only needs to be performed once. This improved process reduces scrap and improves redistribution time to meet our customers’ needs.

In line with the group’s sustainability goals, the EcoFlex 3 features all-new artwork highlighting that it is intended for reuse. Each unit is fully air-conditioned and arrives with pre-printed labels for delivery to the customer and then to the CCT refurbishment facility. Shippers are then returned, refurbished and reposted with the support of CCT ReNew digital tracking and assurance software. To help customers achieve environmental, social and governance (ESG) goals, CCT’s reusable dashboard includes a landfill avoidance tracker, providing users with in-depth insight into the benefits of reusable materials.

More than five million Ecoflex chargers have been deployed to date, making CCT the largest reusable fleet on the market and saving 55 million pounds of material from landfill.

David Weber, Senior Global Marketing Director, Cold Chain Technologies, said:

“EcoFlex 3 represents a new level of reusable capability for temperature-controlled shipping, offering a robust thermal packaging solution that reduces the need for payload overlap, simplifies the packing and unpacking process and enhances our reusable program.

“The purpose of this range is to provide customers with solutions that reduce waste and CO2 emissions, optimize packaging and shipping processes, and manage thermal, mechanical and regulatory risks. EcoFlex 3 delivers all of this along with cost and space savings, making it the ideal choice for those working in highly regulated industries who are looking to achieve sustainability goals without compromising quality.”

EcoFlex 3 is available in four sizes and four temperature ranges, with more products expected to be announced in 2026.
