Chemical responsibility pollution shields is our ability to make agriculture healthy again
What happens when companies are allowed to cause harm without result? Throughout the country, the legislative bodies of the state and Congress are considering laws that give manufacturers of chemicals: responsibility protects them from lawsuits, even when their products are related to cancer, infertility or birth defects.
This batch is not a theory. The Georgia Legislative Council recently presented the draft law of the House of Representatives 211, which limits the responsibility for PFAS pollution – “chemicals forever”, known to harm human health. Many other countries follow their example.
In Washington, DC, the 2024 Republican Farm Bill draft guaranteed language that anticipates the protection of local pesticides and rejects legal asylum to those affected by agricultural chemicals. This ruling should not find its way to the Farm Law 2025.
The pressure is rising. He wrote seventy -nine members of Congress recently to the administration that defends the agricultural chemical lobby, describing pesticides “basic tools” and warning against “political motives on sound science.” But science is not by their side – nor is it the audience.
As a long -time preacher to reform politics, I saw this playing book before. When Congress established a national vaccine injuries compensation program in 1986, he removed civil responsibility from pharmaceutical companies. Today, we see the same shield that extends to the agricultural chemical industry except this time, it affects every American who eats food, drinks water or breathes air.
This is not the issue of agricultural efficiency or feeding America. This is a political maneuver to protect profit, not people. The matter comes just as science reveals new links between chemical exposure and non -alcoholic fatty liver diseases, disruption of endocrine glands, chronic diseases, and birth defects. The risks are enormous.
Fortunately, we have an opportunity to act. A healthy Americana American committee was established again, chaired by the Minister of Health and Humanitarian Services Robert F. Kennedy Junior, to treat the root causes of chronic diseases and environmental pollution. The committee represents a diversified alliance for Americans through party lines who want a diet that heals, not damage.
The administration must reject chemical responsibility shields at all levels of the government, the language of fulfilling the farm bill and restore financing to serve the preservation of the natural resources of the Ministry of Agriculture. This program is responsible for the health of national soil, the national organic program and renewal organic agriculture research.
This is not the left right issue. It is the issue of America’s national welfare and the long -term health, its lands and land, air and water, and their wild life and their people. Whether you support or question the agenda of this broader administration, the protection of public health from corporate damage is something we must be able to agree on.
