Chaos, confusion and conspiracies: Inside a Facebook group for “treatment” by RFK Jr.
Kate Joyce was stuck in Leukurine last December while trying to find ways to improve the life of her 4 and a half -year -old grandson. He spent the next few months researching medicine and talking to neurologists. In April, he submitted his research to the Jose Development Specialist, who agreed to prescribe the drug.
In five months since treatment, Jose has usually continued to be a baby.
Joyce tells Wired, “I started seeing a difference in a few days.” Before taking Leukorin, “he struggled with two -word sentences, and last night, I had a three or four -minute conversation about the family with him.”
Joyce wanted to share his research with others because there were few resources online, so he began Leukorin in May for Autism on Facebook.
At first the group was interested in the group, and about 8,000 people had joined it by August. But then the news that the Trump administration and US health minister Robert F. Kennedy Jr. were trying to recommend Leukorin as a possible treatment for autism – the group exploded. In the week after the Makari announced, Joyce’s group joined approximately 60,000.
Even before the official announcement, tens of thousands of new members had joined the drug based on speculation.
Then, last month, President Donald Trump pushed baseless allegations that active material in tilenol and vaccines may help diagnose autism. The FDA chief, Mart Makari, announced on September 22 that the agency had approved the use of leukorin to treat folate deficiency in the brain, a shortage of some people with autism symptoms.
“Leukurine is something that has been generally prescribed for autism for years with contradictory findings,” says Matthew Lerner, leader of the AJ Drexel Autism Research Program at the University of Drexel. “To date, little research has been done on it, as well as with completely contradictory findings. But honestly, we don’t even know much about these studies, in terms of optimal dose, what will be an optimal time period for it.”
