British goods exports to the US down to the lowest level 3 years in June before the trade agreement
The exports of British goods to the United States fell to the lowest level in more than three years in June, according to official data issued on Thursday which showed the hit of the initial import tariff for US President Donald Trump.
British goods sales to the United States fell to 3.9 billion pounds ($ 5.3 billion) during the month, down 0.7 billion pounds from May and around 20% lower than the monthly average 4.9 billion pounds in 2024.
The last time Britain exported fewer goods to the United States – including the sale of precious metals that could change – in February 2022, the National Statistics Office said.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Trump approved a trading agreement which came into force on June 30 to cut high tariffs in the car and aerospace but left a 10% tariff on most exports with steel that had not been covered.
ONS reported a decrease in exports of all commodities to the United States in June with machines and transportation equipment – including cars that were hit by a higher US initial task – down 0.2 billion pounds.
ONS last week said one third of the business that exported with 10 or more employees reported the impact of US tariffs.
Imports of British US goods increased 0.2 billion pounds in June, driven by higher aircraft sales, Thursday data showed.
In the April-to-June period, British exports to the United States fell more than a quarter, reflecting how many producers who rushed to send their products across the Atlantic before Trump Blitz’s first rate in April.
