Beyerdynamic’s Amiron 300 is cheaper than ever
Following a A pair of truly wireless headphones that play a little more than your regular AirPods? The Beyerdynamic Amiron 300 (8/10, Wired review) are listed at just $180 on Amazon, a full $100 off their list price and the lowest price we’ve seen for these upgraded headphones.
The Amiron 300 has a classic Beyerdynamic sound profile that’s delightfully rich and smooth, with a mostly neutral base that has good clarity at the lower end of the spectrum. Judge Parker Hall was particularly impressed by the quality of the vocals, which he called “clear and dynamic” and “not overwhelmed by such well-defined songs”. These are especially good for jazz and heavy vocal acoustics, but anyone with good ears will be impressed by the performance.
They also come in five eartip sizes, so most people will have no problem finding one that fits, which also helps provide excellent sound isolation. This helps make up for the fact that the active noise cancellation isn’t as clear as headphones like the Sony or Bose. However, they have excellent pass-through, which can trick you into thinking no noise is being removed at all.
There is a mobile app that is unobtrusive and useful that allows you to change the function of the external buttons. As someone who randomly skips songs when the hood is up, I can appreciate the ability to change these settings. There are a variety of other options, including EQ for tuning, and a low-latency mode if you want to use them to watch your favorite shows on the bus ride to work.
All in all, these make a nice upgrade from more affordable true wireless headphones, especially for those with discerning ears and a penchant for vocal music or podcasts. Their simple design and superb compatibility help round out an attractive package, and the lower price helps seal the deal.
