American alcoholic drinks to Canada decreased by 85 percent

US exports of alcoholic drinks to Canada decreased by 85 percent in the second quarter of 2025, according to a new report, indicating the “negative impact” of continuous commercial tensions.

The mid -year report, issued on Monday by the United States Discus Council (Discus), shows that exports to Canada decreased to $ 9.6 million in the second quarter of 2025, a decrease from 63.1 million dollars in the second quarter of 2024.

President Trump announced comprehensive definitions of the United States’ trading partners earlier this year, including a 35% tariff for Canada. The commodities covered by the trade agreement between the United States, Mexico and Canada, concluded by Trump during his first term, are exempt from customs duties.

Canada responded with the imposition of counterfeit definitions, but most of it was raised on September 1.

However, according to the report, “most of the provinces continue to ban American spiritual drinks from its shelves. Canada remains the only major commercial partner who takes revenge on American spiritual drinks.”

In general, US exports of distilled spiritual drinks decreased by 9 percent on an annual basis in the second quarter of 2025: from $ 651 million in the second quarter of 2024 to $ 593.6 million in the second quarter of 2025.

In other international markets, US exports of spiritual drinks were also damaged.

Exports to the European Union, the largest market for the American industry, decreased by 12 percent, as it decreased from 330.7 million dollars in the second quarter of 2024 to $ 290.3 million in the second quarter of 2025.

US exports to the United Kingdom decreased by 29 percent, from 37.7 million dollars in the second quarter of last year to $ 26.9 million in the second quarter of this year. Exports to Japan decreased by 23%, from 27.7 million dollars last year to 21.4 million dollars this year.

The President and CEO of Discus, Chris Song, warned that “ongoing commercial tensions have an immediate and negative impact on American spiritual drinks exports.”

“There is increasing concern that our international consumers are increasingly choosing localized spiritual drinks locally or imported from countries other than the United States, indicating the shift away from the wonderful American brands of spiritual drinks,” Suong followed.

Suong called for a return to zero definitions against zero, and asked him to help him directly from the president.

“With the slowdown of domestic demand, it is extremely important that American distillation companies have a certainty of customs tariffs zero to zero with our main markets, including the European Union and the United Kingdom. Swong said:” The spiritual drink sector is very interconnected, and as a result, customs definitions on imported spiritual drinks have wide consequences on the industry as a whole. “For decades, the spiritual drink sector has been a model model. For “fair and mutual” trade.

“We urge the president to help facilitate the permanent return to the trade -free trade with our long -time business partners to ensure continued growth and vitality of this great industry.”

The White House responded to the report, promoting Trump’s commercial agenda and comprehensive economic policies as beneficial to the industry.

“The President Trump’s commercial agenda has created an unprecedented up to the markets for American products to economies with a total value of more than 32 trillion dollars of more than 1.2 billion people,” White House spokesman Cush Disai said in a statement.

Disai continued: “With these commercial deals and management policies in support of growth represented in canceling regulatory restrictions and tax cuts on the working class into effect, they will be one of their lowest levels for distillation factories, beer factories and American wine makers.”
