Infrastructure to support future expansion of the international VIP lounge
The work was completed in just 17 months by Ecuadorian construction company Ekron and a network of local contractors. It contributed to the creation of more than 500 direct and 1,000 indirect jobs, and was completed without any serious incidents, thanks to robust health and safety protocols.
As part of its sustainability goals, the project achieved EDGE certification – a global standard for energy and water efficiency in construction. This makes it the first airport project in Ecuador to receive this recognition.
Operational readiness was ensured through close collaboration with airlines, ground handling providers, security agencies and other stakeholders at the airport, enabling a smooth transition to the upgraded facilities.
“The expansion of Quito Airport is a clear signal of optimism, growth and long-term vision,” Corporación Quiport said. “It reflects our continued commitment to the city, country and outstanding service at the main gateway to Ecuador.”
