Çelebi Aviation launches new artificial intelligence to detect airport apron safety risks in less than 60 seconds

  • Çelebi Aviation has unveiled CompliAI, an AI-powered safety compliance system that transforms real-time aviation apron monitoring and risk prevention.
  • The successful pilot at Budapest Liszt Veren International Airport demonstrated accident detection in less than 60 seconds and improved near-miss reporting.
  • A global rollout is planned via the Celebi network, expanding data-driven monitoring and automation to enhance ground handling safety worldwide.

Celebi Aviation, a global leader in ground handling and cargo operations across three continents, announced the launch of its pioneering AI-powered occupational health and safety compliance system, a cutting-edge solution designed to significantly raise airport apron safety standards, reduce risks, and enhance operational efficiency.

Jointly developed by Çelebi Aviation’s global quality and IT teams, this innovative system uses AI and GPS-based data analytics to enable real-time monitoring and proactive management of safety compliance. The solution, known internally as CompliAI, was successfully piloted at Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport, where it demonstrated measurable improvements in safety performance and responsiveness.

Transforming apron safety through AI innovation

CompliAI integrates a network of cameras and sensors across ground handling areas to automatically detect and assess compliance with key safety standards, such as equipment distance rules, vehicle movements, and regulation procedures. Through complements, the system ensures continuous monitoring and provides immediate alerts when potential risks or non-compliances are detected.

The system is designed to provide near-real-time feedback to operations teams, enabling rapid corrective action and significantly enhancing Celebi’s safety culture. During the Budapest pilot, accidents were identified and reported in less than 60 seconds, while reporting of near-misses increased significantly, contributing to a more proactive and data-driven approach to safety management.

The global rollout is underway

Based on the success of the pilot project, Çelebi Aviation is now preparing to deploy the CompliAI system globally across its other terminals. The next phase of development will expand the system’s capabilities to include ground service level (SLA) measurements, along with additional operational metrics and equipment categories. This phase will be supported by a central rules library and dedicated on-site implementation teams.

“This project underscores Çelebi Aviation’s commitment to innovation, safety and operational excellence,” he said. Dave Dorner, CEO of Celebi Aviation Group. “By analyzing data in real time, we are able to identify risks more quickly, implement preventative measures more effectively, and protect our employees and customers like never before. This is not just an investment in technology, it is in the future of our industry.”

With the introduction of CompliAI, Đelebi Aviation sets a new standard for apron safety and digital transformation in ground handling, strengthening its position as an industry leader in adopting advanced technologies that enhance safety, performance and sustainability.
