Hong Kong Airlines has mobilized relief and logistics support worth HK$10 million to support Tai Po fire relief efforts.

  • Hong Kong is suffering from its worst fire in nearly 80 years, after a fire swept through a high-rise residential building in the Tai Po district, killing at least 128 people and leaving dozens still missing.
  • The fire, which broke out on Wednesday in a complex undergoing renovation, quickly spread through bamboo scaffolding and construction debris, exhausting residents in the early hours of the morning.
  • Authorities reported that fire alarms in all eight blocks of the property failed to operate effectively. Seventy-nine people were injured, while many survivors were forced to evacuate without warning or support, sparking public outrage and an urgent humanitarian response.

In the wake of the tragedy, Hong Kong Airlines and its shareholder, Fangda Group, pledged HK$10 million in emergency funds to support the victims and their families. The donation will be used to provide immediate financial assistance, emergency goods and support services to displaced people.

“As an airline with roots in Hong Kong, we feel a deep responsibility to support our city during moments of crisis,” the company said. “We extend our heartfelt condolences to the affected families and honor the efforts of all frontline rescue workers.”

In addition to financial assistance, Hong Kong Airlines has formed a joint logistics task force with Hong Kong Air Cargo, DeerJet (HK), and SATS HK, in cooperation with the Hong Kong SAR Government. The initiative includes a “green channel” to transport relief supplies, from thermal equipment to essential items such as food and hygiene products.

“Our team will provide support in logistics, transportation and distribution of essential supplies which includes establishing a green channel for relief materials and arranging flights to transport thermal supplies and other necessities to help displaced residents rebuild their homes and restore normal life as soon as possible.”

“Our hearts go out to everyone affected by this incident. We hope to do our part and stand shoulder to shoulder with the affected families.”
