Demand for Dry Bulkers Still High
DDemand for dry bulk vessels, both new and used vessels, has continued to increase over the past week. In its latest weekly report, shipbroker Banchero Costa said that “in the bulk sector, COSCO Shipping ordered a 4 x 210,000 dwt newcastlemax ship to Dalian Shipbuilding. No price was disclosed, and delivery took place in Q1 2028 – Q3 2029. Singaporean owner Alpha Omega ordered a 4 x 40,000 dwt ship to Yangzijiang Shipbuilding. Alpha Omega is partnering with a European owner, and there are no prices disclosed. Deliveries take place in March 2027 to December 2028. In the tanker sector, an undisclosed European owner ordered 2 x 306,000 dwt VLCCs to Hengli HI. The order was brokered by Songa Ceramics, a subsidiary of Hengli HI, and no price was disclosed. Delivery was scheduled for December 2027. DH Shipbuilding Korea secured an order for 1 x 157,000 dwt suezmax from the owner. Price is $87.4 million and delivery will take place in December 2027. Hyundai Vietnam secured an order for 2 x 157,000 dwt suezmax vessels from Evalend Shipping in Greece. The price is $75 million per vessel and deliveries begin mid-2028 and end of Q1 2029. The Cyprus-based owner of Seatankers placed the order for 2 x 156,800 dwt ships to New Times Shipyard in China each vessel is $79 million, and delivery in Q3 2029 to Q1 2030.
