European Cargo, the UK-based operator of the world’s only A340-600F converted freighters, has partnered with Unilode Aviation Solutions, the global leader in unit load device (ULD) management and repair, to deliver a digital unit load device (ULD) assembly management solution across its global cargo operations.
By joining Unilode’s global ULD network, this collaboration highlights European Cargo’s commitment to enhancing operational efficiency and promoting sustainability in air freight through access to on-demand ULDs and maintenance services for its fleet. This transformation reduces logistics, repair and repositioning costs while improving operational flexibility, which is crucial for an airline like European Cargo with dynamic cargo and charter operations.
Unilode’s sustainability-driven operations and digital tracking technologies will provide real-time visibility, improved utilization and accurate sustainability reporting, helping European Cargo measure and demonstrate tangible progress towards decarbonisation.
“This partnership will provide European Cargo with the focus, agility and flexibility needed to support its growth strategy through our consolidation concept,” said Mohamed Akhlaq, Chief Commercial Officer at Unilode Aviation Solutions. “By leveraging our combined ULD management solutions, European Cargo can enhance and accelerate its expansion while remaining aligned with its sustainability and digital transformation goals.”
“We are pleased to partner with Unilode to enhance our flexibility and operational efficiency,” said Lionel Marais, Cargo Director at European Cargo. “This collaboration gives us the flexibility to scale our operations, improve ULD management and reinforce our commitment to sustainable and digital growth.”
In recent months, a growing number of leading airlines, including American Airlines, Riyadh Air, Thai Airways and Royal Brunei, have joined Unilode’s comprehensive ULD collection and management solution. This continued expansion strengthens the global asset pool, which now exceeds 200,000 ULDs across more than 500 airports around the world. By bringing together data-driven resources and insights for all, Unilode’s model redefines the concept of ULD management, increasing operational efficiency, enabling digital transformation, and advancing the aviation industry’s collective sustainability goals.
