Swissport, the world’s leading aviation services provider, has opened a strategic Line 2 cargo facility in Amsterdam Schiphol, significantly expanding its capacity and strengthening its position as Europe’s preferred air cargo partner in the Golden Triangle.
The new Terminal 12 (T12) adds 5,000 square meters of handling space, bringing Swissport’s total cargo space at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol to 40,000 square meters and supporting growth in European cargo volumes. From January 2026, this capacity will increase by another 3,800 m2, bringing the total area of Swissport in Schiphol to 43,800 m2. The terminal began full operations in early October and now operates 24/7 to meet the growing demand for imported goods while providing enhanced reliability, capacity and innovation to airlines and freight forwarders.

“At Swissport, our goal is to be the most trusted and innovative air cargo partner worldwide,” said Dirk Govaerts, CEO of Continental EMEA and Head of Global Cargo for Swissport.

“Expanding capacity at strategic hubs like Schiphol Airport is key to our global strategy – allowing us to meet growing demand, drive operational excellence, and deliver sustainable, cutting-edge solutions to airlines and customers around the world. The recent expansions in Liège and Manchester, as well as new partnerships at JFK and China, strengthen Swissport’s integrated global network and enhance connectivity globally.”

“This expansion underscores our long-term commitment to the Amsterdam Schiphol shipping community,” said Jeroen Gehling, Managing Director, Shipping, Swissport Netherlands. “Terminal 12 enhances our import handling capabilities and enables us to manage increased cargo volumes safely and efficiently, relieving pressure on our existing warehouses and ensuring greater reliability for our customers.”

Terminal 12 will primarily handle import shipments, providing additional storage and processing capacity to enhance efficiency at Swissport’s first-line warehouses. This strategic allocation of cargo flows will contribute to more efficient capacity utilization across the entire Swissport Schiphol operation, reducing truck waiting times and improving warehouse workflow.

The new facility builds on Swissport’s previous investments in Schiphol in 2024 and 2025, which included the addition of three loading bridges for pallets and containers (now four in total), more than 140 wheeled deck sites inside the existing warehouse, and 150 wheeled deck sites outside. These improvements, along with three dedicated express lanes for rapid transfer from aircraft to delivery trucks, have helped triple the facility’s loading capacity and significantly improve overall delivery times.

The T12 is designed to align with Swissport’s sustainability agenda in Schiphol, including its pioneering “Milk Run” integration programme. Launched in 2015, Milk Run consolidates shipments from multiple freight forwarders into single, optimized trucks – reducing road traffic, reducing emissions, and improving overall logistics efficiency within the airport freight ecosystem. Swissport plans to connect Terminal 12 to the Milk Run as soon as possible, further enhancing environmental and operational performance.

The addition of Terminal 12 strengthens Swissport’s strategic footprint at the heart of Europe’s logistics hub. Located in Schiphol within the region commonly referred to as the “Golden Triangle” between Amsterdam, Paris and Frankfurt, Swissport draws on more than seven decades of cargo handling experience since 1952. With three fully operational cargo terminals, Swissport now handles a comprehensive cargo portfolio, including medicines, perishables and high-value goods.

Supported by more than 300 freight professionals across Schiphol’s operations, the expanded facilities enable Swissport to meet the growing requirements of its airline customers while maintaining the flexibility and reliability that have defined its operations in this key European hub.

With Terminal 12, Swissport is strengthening its global cargo network, strengthening its role as a trusted, innovative and trusted partner to airlines and freight forwarders across Europe and beyond.
