Donald Trump is the first AI Slop President

President Donald Trump, a septuagenarian known for his public avoidance of keyboards and computers, has somehow become America’s first AI-powered president.

The most infamous example was his experiment with AI-generated videos before the No Kings protests earlier this month. In this clip, the president is fully decorated Top Gun equipment, piloting a fighter jet with “KING TRUMP” on his side. However, instead of a traditional pilot’s hat, the president is wearing a literal crown, just in case the rest of the imagery is too subtle. The plane succeeds in its mission: dumping unimaginable amounts of food on imaginary No Kings protesters in New York’s Times Square.

This is just the latest flaw in Trump’s AI. He’s also shared a racist picture of House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries with a mustache and sombrero, a very dystopian, weird “Trump Gaza” video, and more.

You have to wonder how these videos ended up on Trump’s official account in the first place?

I’ve learned that the president of the United States at least has the ability to send AI videos to the mainstream: According to a senior White House official, there are times when Trump comes across a video that he finds too funny or amusing — whether on Truth Social or through other unspecified channels — to save it on his camera roll and release it to the world. Most of the time, though, it’s staffers who identify a clip and approve it for posting on the president’s main account. In any case, Trump doesn’t make the actual videos himself.

The White House is concerned about how the fighter jet video ended up and who exactly hit the send button.

As a general trend, Trump seems to be typing less on social media than in his heyday, a former Trump campaign official tells me. He has long relied on dictation and annotated printouts, while still prone to more than the occasional covfefe typo.

Trump saw the value of a team in managing his Twitter presence long before landing in the steep trenches of artificial intelligence. During his first term in office, Trump terrorized Republican politicians and business executives with his news-making and market-driving tweets before being suspended from the podium after inciting the Jan. 6 uprising. In the social media wilderness, he founded Truth Social in October 2021.
