Lödige Industries honored for developing automation in air cargo handling
- Lödige Industries won the “Innovation – Product Award” at the 41st Air Cargo News Awards in London, recognizing its Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) that have transformed ULD transport at charging stations.
- Developed in-house and in operation since 2018, the autonomous AGVs have significantly improved efficiency, safety and space utilization while reducing reliance on manual handling and fixed transportation systems.
- Lauded for their proven reliability, customer impact and scalability, AGVs are already in use globally, setting new standards in terminal automation. The award highlights Lödige’s commitment to future-ready, customer-focused innovations in air freight logistics.
Lödige Industries has received the prestigious Air Cargo News Award in the “Innovation Award – Product” category at the 41st Air Cargo News Awards in London, UK. This award honors Lödige Industries for its outstanding achievements and contributions to the air cargo industry.
Lödige Industries impressed the judges with its automated guided vehicles, a technology that has already been deployed and is helping to transform air cargo handling operations around the world. Since its initial deployment, the system has demonstrated clear performance gains for Lödige Industries customers. Customer feedback from live operations confirms that AGVs achieve their results by combining proven reliability, market success and a strong customer impact. Lödige Industries’ submission emphasized that this innovation not only meets the award criteria, but exceeds them by combining proven reliability, market success and strong customer impact.
Autonomous AGVs fundamentally change the means of unit load (ULD) transportation within charging stations. It reduces the need for fixed conveyor systems or manual transport, increases space utilization, and greatly increases handling efficiency. At the same time, they reduce the risk of damage to ULD units and accidents, improving safety for both operators and cargo handlers. The vehicles’ flexible programming and ability to cover long distances enable seamless and scalable terminal operations.
The system has been developed and extensively tested since 2018, and has now been implemented on a larger scale, setting new standards for automation in air cargo terminals and providing a future-ready solution to industry challenges around the world.
With these AGVs, Lödige Industries once again demonstrates its strong customer focus: the system, which has already been used successfully, helps customers increase efficiency and enhance safety. The award underscores Lödige Industries’ commitment to innovation and ability to deliver future-oriented solutions that meet changing industry needs.
“Winning this award is great recognition of our ambition to deliver real value to customers through innovation. By embracing automation, we ensure efficiency and safety for our customers. In a world characterized by rapid change, transformation and innovation have become indispensable. Advanced solutions are essential. I would specifically like to express my gratitude to my colleagues whose contribution and great passion made this achievement possible.said Björn Ösat, Director of Airport Logistics Solutions at Lödige Industries.
An in-house development by Lödige Industries, the AGVs represent a milestone in flexible and scalable automation, setting new standards for air cargo handling and offering a future-proof solution for both new and existing facilities.
