Ostend-Bruges Airport appoints Johan Leonen as Director of Cargo Development
- Ostend-Bruges Airport has appointed Johan Lunen as Director of Cargo Development, strengthening its strategy to expand cargo operations and drive sustainable growth.
- Johan has over 23 years of experience in the air cargo industry and previously held senior positions at Brussels Airport, where he led cargo marketing and business development initiatives that attracted airlines and logistics partners.
- Working with Cargo Sales Manager Rose Yiqian Qiu and Stephen Verhasselt from Aegis Group, Johan will focus on growing cargo services and strengthening the airport’s role as a major regional logistics hub.
Ostend-Bruges Airport has announced the appointment of Johan Lunen as Director of Cargo Development, reinforcing the airport’s commitment to enhancing cargo activities and sustainable growth.
Leonen has over 23 years of experience in the air freight industry. He began his career in 2000, gaining experience in cargo handling, freight and airport development. Starting in operations, progress through roles in customer support and sales management, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the industry.
After his early career at Brussels Airport, Leonen also worked as Business Development and Markets Manager in the cargo sector. In 2012, he joined Brussels Airport Company as Cargo Marketing Manager, where he focused on supporting airlines’ cargo and driving their growth. Until 1 January 2025, Leonen served as Senior Business and Development Cargo Manager at Brussels Airport, where he played a pivotal role in attracting new cargo airlines and logistics players, and significantly contributing to the airport’s international outreach and development.
In his new role at Ostend-Bruges Airport, Leonen will work alongside Cargo Sales Director Rose Yiqian QI and Aegis Group Director of Cargo Strategy Steven Verhasselt to further develop the airport’s cargo services, attract new business opportunities, and drive sustainable growth in line with the region’s strategic ambitions.Nathan de Valk, CEO of Ostend-Bruges Airport: “We firmly believe in the opportunities that the air cargo sector brings to Ostend-Bruges Airport.
