  • The service will take e-commerce and general merchandise inbound and premium Scottish exports such as salmon and whisky outbound, strengthening trade links between the UK and China.
  • This agreement represents Prestwick’s third new cargo airline in six months, strengthening its position as one of the UK’s leading air cargo hubs.

Glasgow Prestwick Airport has entered into an agreement with Chinese carrier Beijing Capital Airlines, a member of Hainan Airlines Group, to launch a regular cargo service linking Glasgow Prestwick Airport (PIK) with Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport (CGO).

The first flight, operated by an Airbus A330-243 (P2F), arrived at Glasgow Prestwick Airport on Thursday 16 October, marking the start of the four-times-weekly flight schedule.

Beijing Capital is the third cargo airline to seize the opportunity at Glasgow Prestwick in the past six months.

Each flight will carry e-commerce and general cargo items destined for the UK, premium products including Scottish salmon and whisky, along with other high-value goods destined for China.

Ian Forgey, chief executive of Glasgow Prestwick Airport, said: “This third scheduled service confirms Prestwick’s position as one of the UK’s leading cargo hubs and demonstrates the strength of our e-commerce solutions.”

“Our new partnership with Beijing Capital Airlines expands capacity, increases frequency and provides exporters across the UK with a new destination in mainland China.”

The agreement represents another milestone in Prestwick’s long-term shipping development strategy, which focuses on building sustainable, high-frequency routes linking UK exporters to major international trade centres.

Together, these services underscore Prestwick’s role as one of the UK’s key shipping hubs for Chinese trade and e-commerce.
