Istanbul Airport becomes the first in Europe to successfully implement the triple runway system

Türkiye’s position in Global Aviation was strengthened as a major center for continental, and Iga Istanbul entered into a new era in the history of aviation with the launch of “triple runway operations” in Europe.

The operation was officially started by the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdel Qader Uraloglu. From Air Monitoring Tower (ATC), Minister Uraloglu gave the first leadership of the Turkish Airlines pilot, allowing the simultaneous takeoff for three scheduled flights. This moment has not only distinguished a milestone for the Iga Istanbul Airport but also a turning point in the history of global aviation.

Through this new system – it is expected to make a major contribution to the Turkish economy – Iga Istanbul now has the ability to take off and land simultaneously on three independent runways. As a result, air traffic at the airport increased from 120 to 148 aircraft. This operational transformation not only improves traffic management in Istanbul, but also through European airspace, making it faster, safer and more efficient. Aircraft movements mean additional 28 an hour, shorter waiting times for airlines, less passengers, and reduce carbon emissions to the environment.

The road paves the way for 200 million passengers

This innovative system plays an important role in supporting the vision of Iga Istanbul Airport to accommodate 200 million passengers. As a global transport center, the airport will now be able to manage the intensive traffic of passengers and shipping more efficiently. It also ensures long -term sustainability by preparing the airport for future traffic sizes. A major component of this system, Airport’s cooperative decisions (A-CDM) The system promotes the ability to predict air traffic, improves the customization of the openings, and ensures more efficient use in the runway.

Commenting on the new capabilities, Mohamed Kalionko, a member of the Istanbul Airport Board of Directors, said: “I am proud to remember that from today we are officially launched Trilogy trilogy trilogy At IGA Istanbul Airport, a precedent in Europe and again lifting Türkiye to the top in the field of aviation. This is not just an artistic achievement for us, but also a strategic teacher. We have taken an important step towards our goal of becoming one of the leading centers equipped with advanced technologies in global aviation. Today, we are commissioning Trilogy trilogy trilogyThe main column of this ecosystem. With this system, we increase our ability to air in the hour 120 to 148 aircraft movements. This means not only Istanbul, but also the airspace in Europe will become more efficient. Istanbul is no longer just a destination – it is now a global air transport center. “

500 control units, 4,500 hours of training

The transformation process began at ̇ga Istanbul Airport in 2022. In close cooperation with the General Directorate of the Government Airport Authority (DHMI), the General Directorate of Civil Aviation (SHGM), Turkish airlines (ThY), EuroControl, and other international powers, which is a comprehensive design for safety and air design. During this period, a total of 500 air traffic control units were subjected to 4,500 hours of training based on operational scenarios developed specifically for the new system.

The new operating structure is supported by advanced solutions such as advanced radar systems, full A-CDM integration, improved gambling management, and digital taxi times.

In addition, close coordination with EuroControl ensures a smooth integration with the European airspace, reduces delay, and improves traffic flow. Air traffic control teams use the latest radar systems, mobility tools and predictive analyzes to ensure smooth operations. The data in the actual time enables the control units to make fast and informed decisions, while predictive tools help to imagine aviation patterns and prevent potential runway conflicts-a decisive feature, especially during peak travel periods.

Even during its initial construction, the air infrastructure is designed at the airport as this system is taken into account, ensuring preparation for future demands.
