Hundreds are participating in the organized swimming in the Chicago River for the first time in 100 years
Hundreds of historical swimming in the Chicago River participated on Sunday, according to multiple reports.
The Guardian newspaper reported that the organized swimming was the first of its kind in nearly 100 years. The number of participants in this event is approaching 300, according to Chicago Sun Times.
“Restoring our river creates a recreational space for residents and visitors, but also puts us on the map, along with other global destinations, as swimming in open waters has become part of the city’s culture,” said Chicago Brandon Johnson, when swimming started, according to Sun Times.
The web page of this event states that “the episode will be closed at a new birth from the Chicago River.”
“The Civil Renaissance brings Chicago to a group of unique peers from the cities that regained its urban waterways, including Amsterdam, London, Paris and New York City,” the web page continues.
“The huge public and private support behind the concept of the Chicago River, including the pent -up demand from hundreds of experienced swimmers and countless local companies and community advocates.”
