Do you want to collaborate?
Yes
Well what’s your favorite sandwich?
It’s hard because I love them all. I say a New Jersey subsidiary of this institute called Sorrento around FreeHold. In my opinion, one number 14, which is a combination, such as number 7 and number 12. [Eds. note: Sorrento’s menu says the Number 14 is a combo of a Number 5 and a Number 12 called the Pig Special.] So an Italian subdivision from a real New Jersey institution, and if not, the Wawa Club Sandwich.
I really appreciate how special it was. Thanks for the first video game you’ve ever bought?
I made a lot of pirates because of growing in Türkiye, so it was almost impossible for us to get a lot of video games. As far as purchasing can be Metal Gear Solid 2 For PlayStation 2 or guess a Pokémon game.
So let’s go back 34 years. You were born in New Jersey. You spent most of your childhood in Türkiye.
Yes
You’ve already talked about that training. You have described it as a very privileged person. How does this experience affect your worldview now that you are able to look back and reflect? How does this turn you into the person you are today?
There is a widespread income inequality in Türkiye that is now almost like the US, but it is still much worse in Türkiye. For this reason, if you are above the board, if you are relatively prosperous, you are very rich compared to a median person.
I have never sought refuge from that truth, but I grew up relatively prosperous. This was very positive that I didn’t need to worry about achieving goals or forced to do jobs or the like. My parents’ main concern was to make sure I was not broken, so I didn’t get whatever I wanted.
Outside it, I say that I was sent to a public school in Türkiye as a young boy. I think this was a good thing my parents did because it made me realize that there were very different income brackets to people living in very different situations.
You moved to the United States for university, right? What was the surprise to you about that?
When I came to college, this literally is what I wanted. Other people like, “I want to be an astronaut”, “I want to be a teacher”, “I want to be a race car driver.” I loved, “I want to go to university in America.”
So I loved it. I became so much Stoke to be here and I had all these beliefs. You know, this is a land of freedom, the land of happiness, is it right?
True
This is where I want to make a name for myself, to make a profession for myself.
Slowly, but certainly, the experiences growing or going to college and then living in America slowly disappeared in that dream. The piece to the piece.
Yes
This is interesting because compared to other new boat immigrant stories, I did. I live the American dream, but I just realized that this is not something that can be easily accessible to everyone.
