Gebrüder Weiss celebrates the twentieth anniversary in Serbia
“Twenty years after entering the Serbian market, the International Transport and Logistics Company Gebrüder Weiss takes positive shares.” Serbia has undergone great economic development in recent years. “Our decision to establish a central logistics center for West Balkan here has proven here is the right decision,” said Wolfram Singer Weiss, CEO of Gebrüder Weiss, to the media representatives in Belgrade on October 18.
Serbia has evolved into an attractive purchase market for auto parts, food, textiles and furniture, with about 70 percent of exports to the European Union. In addition, the Balkan country is the main supplier of agricultural products for many neighboring countries, including Albania, Bosnia, Herzegovina, Montenegro and North Macedonia.
Today, Gebrüder Weiss offers its customers in the transfer of land, air and marine in Serbia, clearance of customs and logistical solutions. Group shipping shipments go to the neighboring countries and the European Union’s union market several times a week. The logistics provider has a total of 20,000 square meters of logistical spaces in the country. In 2023, the company achieved net revenues of 53 million euros.
IIn addition to its headquarters in Dobanovsi near Belgrade, Gebrüder Weiss has three other sites in Serbia: In Novi Sad in the north and in NIš and Strojkovce near Leskovac in the south. A new logistical warehouse in Dobanovsi recently started operations. The company has already invested more than 20 million euros in its logistical facilities. “By the end of the year, we will invest an additional million euros in our home delivery services and an additional space for warehouses,” says Thomas Shawar, regional director in central and southeastern Europe.
Another field of concentration is sustainability. For example, Dobanovci gets all electricity from the solar power plant, which reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 90 tons annually. Eight natural gas trucks (CNG) operate four ways to make consumer goods. In addition, detergents and cleaning factors are transferred sustainable with railways to Germany. “Every year, 1500 railway containers roll from Budapest to the Rower area. This provides us with more than a thousand tons of carbon dioxide compared to the transportation of traditional trucks,” explains Roland Raytith, the country’s director of Serbia at Gebrüder Weiss. Next year, electronic carriers for zero emissions will also be used in delivery processes to the final customers in Serbia.
Starting with a small office in Belgrade in 2004, Gebrüder Weiss now employs 300 people in Serbia. Gebrüder Weiss was one of the first logistical services companies to implement the principle of double training for young professionals there. Since 2018, young professionals have been receiving both academic training while working to cooperate with the School of Transport and Technology in Belgrade. “We offer young professionals long -term professional horizons in a group of logistical professions,” says Roland Reth.
