Openai announced the extensive participation of the US Government
Openai It cooperates with the US government to provide federal staff with its leading border models. According to the agreement, federal agencies can access Openai models for $ 1 for the next year, according to a Wednesday statement from the company and the Public Service Office (GSA).
This peak partnership is for months from the Openai CEO Sam Altman and other Openai executives who have won the White House in January before President Donald Trump.
“One of the best ways to ensure artificial intelligence is to provide it with the people who serve the country,” said Altman in a statement sent to Wired.
Since at least May this year, according to Wired documents, Openai’s high -ranking employees have met GSA and other government agencies such as the Food and Drug Administration to upgrade the company’s tools.
On July 23, Brad Litcap, Openai CEO and other Openai executives, were invited to a private party hosted by the Hill and Valley Association in Washington, DC. A number of government employees who participated in various artificial intelligence policy efforts, including DOGE Akash Bobba and Edward Coristine, were also on the invitation list for invitation by Wired.

On Tuesday, GSA announced that it adds three new models of artificial intelligence – Claude’s Claude, Google’s Gemini, and Openai’s ChatGPT – to its federal shopping list, making government agencies use these tools. The move was framing as a promoting Trump Artificial Intelligence Action Plan, which called for accelerating artificial intelligence innovation in the United States.
On the same day, Openai launched two open weight models-the first copy of the company from 2019. These models can be locally implemented and customized for special uses, allowing Openai potentially to cooperate with government agencies that need high levels of data security.
Under Elun Mask, the so -called government ministry of efficiency (DOGE) accelerated the government’s AI efforts, including by launching an artificial intelligence chat called GSAI. In the housing and urban development group, a DOGE operator has used artificial intelligence tools to rewrite agency regulations.
GSA did not respond to the case before publishing.
American artificial intelligence giants have shown increasing interest in cooperating with the US government in recent months. Shortly after Trump’s inauguration, the President announced a large new data center infrastructure project from Openai called Stargate. Altman stood by the president while announcing the new investment in the White House. In May, Altman and other artificial intelligence managers also accompanied Trump on a trip to the Middle East, where they declared a number of business transactions to increase US foreign policy interests.
Government agencies have large quantities of data that may potentially be valuable to artificial intelligence companies. (Openai says that ChatGPT does not use interaction with federal employees as training data.) US government departments seeking to renovate their operations may see production artificial intelligence as a way to update systems and improve efficiency. Agencies such as the Department of Defense are also huge customers. Trump’s proposed budget for the Ministry of Defense for fiscal year 2026 is $ 1.01 trillion, up 13.4 percent.
