China welcomed 183 Brazilian coffee sellers after US fares
China has approved 183 new Brazilian coffee companies to export products to the Chinese market, according to the Social Media Post of the Chinese Embassy in Brazil on Saturday.
That step, awards for local exporters after the announcement of the United States government regarding steep tariffs on Brazilian coffee and other products, came into force on July 30.
The new Chinese export permit is valid for five years, according to Post.
The US 50% tariff on some Brazilian products will begin on August 6.
Retribution is a challenge for traders of Brazilian coffee and exporters, who need to find alternatives to around 8 million bags sold to us coffee processors every year.
China is the best Brazilian trading partner as a whole while the US is a large buyer of Brazilian beef and orange juice, among other products.
In June, the exports of Brazilian coffee to the US amounted to 440,034 60-kilo bags, 7.87 times more than Brazilian sales to China consisting of nearly 56,000 bags of the month, according to trade data compiled by the Cecafe industry lobby.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Cecafe Brazil has no direct comments.
Chinese customs authorities cannot be achieved immediately because they are outside working hours.
Brazil supplies about one third of the demand for US coffee every year, trading worth $ 4.4 billion in 12 months ending in June.
