Duffy, Nadler Tangle when hearing: “Don’t let me a liar here”

Transport Minister Sean Dove and MP Jerry Nadler (DN.Y.) raised the heads on Wednesday about the safety of the New York City Metro System and the accuracy of crime data statistics.

In a testimony before the Transport and Infrastructure Committee in the House of Representatives, Dofi Nadler warned that he was called a liar after a member of Congress said that Duffy “has offended” the facts “from the Urban Transport Authority (MTA), who is responsible for the subway in New York.

“Recently, last week, MTA attacked again, claiming that there was an increase in the attacks on the metro and accusing the information blocking agency,” Nadler said in the hearing. “But many of your statements distort the facts and ignore the documents already submitted to your section. I want to address some of these claims directly.”

“First, do you realize that the main crime in the transportation system, including the attacks, has decreased by 3 percent since last year and a decrease of 8 percent since 2019?” Nadler asked.

Duffy Nadler told that these statistics were wrong and that MTA has witnessed a 60 percent increase in attacks since 2019.

Nadler replied, “Why do you continue to ignore this and lie about this in your public comments?”

Duffy pushed back, and asked why Nadler continues to “lie about lighting people on the subway or pushed in front of the trains?”

“You must fight to make sure that the subway is safe,” Dofi said. “If you want people to ride the subway, you will not make the subway safe.”

Nadler added: “Our subway is safe, and I gave you these statistics.”

“They are wrong.”

MTA published the latest official crime statistics in May 2025, indicating the total main crimes in the subway by 3.9 percent during the same period in 2024. The total main crimes decreased by 7.3 percent compared to the same period of the five months in 2019.

However, the attacks on a felony – one of the categories contained in “major crimes” – increased by 18 percent compared to the same period in 2024, and more than 60 percent since 2019, according to MTA crime statistics.

Nader and Duffy also clashed over the city’s congestion prices, which the Trump administration opposed.

The pricing plan earns 9 dollars per day during peak hours to enter the central business area in Manhattan, and $ 2.25 during working hours. Nadler said that the charge is not different from any other way, on the pretext that there was no precedent to pay the Trump administration to cancel the program.

Duffy claimed that drivers can choose alternative roads if they want to avoid normal trading, unlike drivers who want to enter the “relief area” in New York.

“Duffy Secretary, why are you still lying about New York City?” Nadler asked.

“You are lying. Don’t let me a liar here,” Davi responded.

“I am calling you a liar because you were constantly lied,” Nader replied.
