Lootnick: “We expect the basic tariff to be 10 percent in the foreseeable future.”
On Sunday, the United States said that the United States expects to be “a 10 % basic tariff in effect for the future future” for countries around the world amid commercial tensions.
“We expect the basic tariff to be 10 percent in its place in the foreseeable future,” Lootnick told CNN’s Dana Bas on the “Union’s case”. “But do not buy the ridiculous arguments paid by the American consumer.”
“The companies, their job is to try to sell to the American consumer, and the products locally produced will not have this tariff,” he added.
President Trump announced this week a commercial agreement with the United Kingdom, the country’s first deal in the wake of the “Liberation Day” tariff in early April. The deal is included in the United States, which is allowing the United States to export 100,000 cars with a 10 % tariff rate instead of a 25 percent tariff rate announced in late March.
Trump said on Thursday: “This has now turned, in fact, to be a lot for both countries, because it will be really great for the United Kingdom as well. So, they open the country; their country is a little closed, and we appreciate that,” Trump said on Thursday.
However, as part of the deal, the standard tariff is still 10 percent on imports for most countries in the United Kingdom
During the first few months of his second term, Trump’s tariff policy has tense relations with commercial partners around the world, including allies such as the European Union and Canada.
Lootnick also discussed customs tariff talks with China in Switzerland during his “Union’s Status”, saying that the Trump administration members are “difficult to do so.”
He added: “There is a lot to accomplish it, there is a lot to take care of the table and get out of the table, and … they are working hard.”
