China said that he had full confidence in the ability to manage US trade problems

China has full confidence in its ability to manage US trade issues, said Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Hua Chunying on Friday, the day before officials from both parties will meet in Switzerland to discuss the tariffs they have done with each other.

“We are not afraid,” Hua told a small group of journalists in secondary schools in rural areas in Southwest China, adding that the US government trade policy could not be maintained.

Weekend talks involving US and Chinese economic and trade officials are widely seen as the first step towards completing a trade war that has disrupted the global economy. President Donald Trump said on Thursday that the US tariff in Beijing was 145% likely to fall.

“We have full confidence,” Hua said during the trip arranged by Beijing to Malipo County to show China’s efforts to build a rural economy.

“We don’t want any war with any country. But we have to face reality. As you can see, people have full trust in our ability to overcome all difficulties.”
Trump tariffs on many trading partners in the United States, including China, are increasingly burdening the world economy which for decades has benefited from trade that can be predicted and relatively free.

Many economists call Trump tariffs as “demand shocks” for the world economy which, by making imports more expensive for American businesses and consumers, will tidy up activities elsewhere.

“What the United States does cannot be maintained,” Hua said. “Ordinary people in the US already feel suffering from a tariff war.”
The US government will return to “normal”, he said.
